Tod Wicks avatarDecent with undertones of displeasure

After receiving a halloween email from Spinn, I selected this item on Wednesday, October 31. My first disappointment was that it wasn't shipped until Monday, November 5, arriving on Wednesday, November 7. I was under the impression that orders would be shipped with 48 hours of receipt, on business days. The second disappointment was that I was charged over $8.00 shipping where previous orders from other roasters had charged $5.00. (As an aside, the email notice that was sent on October 31 showed shipping as $0.00, which I knew would be incorrect.) On opening the bag, there was virtually no aroma that one expects from fresh roasted beans. Of note, the beans were medium dark and had no oily sheen that a darker roast would exhibit. After grinding a portion (Cuisinart burr grinder), a decent but not overwhelming aroma arose. I also noticed a fair amount of light-colored slivers throughout the grounds, which puzzled me a bit. The brewed coffee (through a Gaggia Baby Twin) presented a nice aroma and the brew itself was pleasant. Unfortunately, though, I didn't taste a bit of the butterscotch, praline, or pecan that is described above, which was the reason I selected this item.
